Committee Responsibilities

The various committees that serve the Board of Directors are advisory in nature meaning that they have the responsibility of oversight of the various amenities, functions, facilities and procedures of the association.  Their authority is restricted by the will of the Board.  The only exception to this is the Architectural Committee which is defined by the covenants of the subdivision and has final authority on all architectural matters.  The only control available to the Board of Directors for that committee is in the assignment of the Architectural Committee chairman and members.

These committees are all part of the same team and are expected to interact and support one another's objectives.  For example, the Recreation Committee oversees the swimming pools but the Building & Grounds Committee has the responsibility for overseeing the maintenance of all facilities.  Therefore, these two committees should coordinate their activities.  None of these committees has the authority to issue instructions to employees of the association.  That authority is limited to the Board of Directors through its president to the general manager.  That is the appropriate chain of command in the Lake Forest Property Owners Association.  The chairmen of each of these committees is expected to give a report to the membership at each month's stated meeting.  Below are listed the committees of the LFPOA and their general responsibilities.

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee is responsible for keeping our membership informed about anything pertaining to the Lake Forest Property Owners Association's management, facilities, amenities and various elements that impact our community.  The primary forms of communication are the Lake Forest Spectrum and the monthly statement.  The committee is responsible for overseeing the content of these media.  If the association establishes its own website, this committee will include that in its area of responsibility.

Yacht Club & Marina Committee

The Yacht Club & Marina committee is responsible for all activities surrounding Lake Forest's Yacht Club.  This includes events, operations, entertainment, food & beverage services at that amenity.  This committee coordinates closely with the Building & Grounds and Food & Beverage committees.  The YC & M committee will work closely with the party coordinator in planning events, menus, etc and also the Lake Forest Yacht Club, Inc. which is the community's primary user group of boaters.  The Lake Forest Yacht Club, Inc is a member of the Gulf Yachting Association.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is the Board of Directors' advisory group for the association's financial matters.  This committee works closely with the association's management, accounting department and external auditor to make sure that Lake Forest stays on a solid financial footing.  Normally, the chairman of this committee is the treasurer of the association.

Greens Committee

The Greens Committee is responsible for advising the Board of Directors on matters related to the association's two golf courses, the Forest 18 and the Lake 9.   The golf courses represents the community's largest revenue generator and also its greatest expense area.  This committee will advise the board on the physical state of the golf courses and the organized events that are presented by the club.  It will coordinate closely with the Building & Grounds Committee and the Food & Beverage Committee about the needs of the Country Club buildings, the 19th Hole restaurant and the Bayview Lounge.  These committees will advise the Board of Directors, which in turn communicates the policies that are agreed upon to our association management.

Architectural Committee

The Architectural Committee is defined by the covenants of the subdivision.  It has final authority for the enforcement of the covenants of this deed restricted community.  This committee will create policies that are designed to assist the residents in keeping their properties in compliance with those covenants and keep the quality of the community at the highest level possible.  The chairman of the committee is assigned by the president of the Board of Directors.

The Recreation Committee

The Recreation Committee is something of a catchall committee responsible for most of the other amenities such as the pools and tennis courts.  This committee will work closely with the user groups of these other amenities such as the Lake Forest Tennis Association and the Lake Forest Swim Team.  This committee is responsible for reporting back to the Board of Directors the status of the various programs offered by the association.  It will work closely with the Building & Grounds Committee, keeping it informed of the state of these amenities including the pools, the old country club building and the tennis proshop.

The Food & Beverage Committee

This committee is responsible for the food and beverage services offered to our membership.  It will advise the board of costs related to these services, menus, and special events.  It will work closely with the Finance Committee in keeping a reign on costs related to the operation of the Yacht Club food and beverage services, the Bayview Lounge and the 19th Hole.

From time to time the Board of Directors may create special ad hoc committees to deal with special needs.  These committees report and advise the board about the subject they have been assigned.
